PB [&] J- Entry #7
I owe an apology...
I've been training postpartum women for several years now, and while I love helping women get back into bodies that they feel comfortable in, I need to say I'm sorry to you all: to the moms I've worked with, as well as all the moms I haven't.
I'm sorry that when you told me you didn't have time for a workout, I told you to make the time, as if it's that easy to make time to even take a poop in private much less do a full hiit circuit in your living room.
I'm sorry that when you felt guilty about eating those extra cookies, I threw words out at you like "macros" and "meal prep" instead of telling you that it's ok... and that you could have added a side of cake to your cookies, and it would have still been ok.
I'm sorry I allowed you to continue to fixate on a size or a look or a number or pair of old skinny jeans. I should have opened your eyes to how useless and frivolous these preoccupations were during this fleeting and magical time of your life.
I'm sorry I took your money to enable your quest for a "perfect body", when what I should have done, is only taken the money under the single condition that I would coach you towards your HEALTHIEST body, so long as you promised to give your full effort in accepting the one you already have.
To all the mothers out there, I'm sorry on behalf of any coach, any magazine, or any person/place/thing/entity that has made you feel pressure to be ANYTHING other than what you are and exactly as you are. Yes, I believe it is imperative that in order to be a good mother, we need to take care of our health and our well-being. I also think it's important to instill these values in our children, and in doing so, we need to walk the walk.
I plan to continue coaching and guiding women who truly value those things. But I'm no longer interested in not only enabling but MONETIZING off of women's lack of self worth. From this moment on I choose to empower you from the inside out. I choose to help you fall in love with yourself as is, while making healthy steps and choices along the way that will help you be your best self- for you AND your family.
I'm sorry it took until now for me to understand all this.
